Dental Sedation in Ewell

The Parade Dental Practice is here to put every patient at ease with sedation services administered by our experienced and trusted team of dental professionals.

What is Dental Sedation?

Dental sedation is a medication we provide to help you relax during your appointment. Sedation is safe, comfortable, and has no major side effects. One main advantage of sedation is that patients will not experience a gag reflex, making appointments more manageable for those who don’t enjoy the feeling of saliva buildup or swallowing.

Conscious sedation helps patients block out pain while staying extremely relaxed and comfortable. Patients can still follow commands but may drift off to sleep or lose track of time, making an appointment go by quickly.

Depending on your treatment, your dentist will advise whether or not sedation is recommended. Sedation is administered by our anaesthetists, either in the back of your hand or in your arm. The dose will depend on the treatment needed and the time it will take to complete.

Who is Sedation for?

Dental sedation is ideal for helping nervous or anxious patients cope with treatments, along with those who may experience the following:

Accepting New Patients

The Parade Dental Practice is located near Stoneleigh station and is open to new and longstanding patients. If you’d like to book an appointment with us, connect with us via phone or email, and we look forward to helping you along your oral health journey.

Relative Analgesia Sedation (Happy Gas)

Happy gas, or laughing gas, is another option to help patients relax during their dental treatment. How does it work? A mask is gently fitted onto your face, where a mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide is released. The effects will start within a few minutes as you breathe in the odourless, colourless gas.

Patients will feel relaxed but are still awake. You can talk to the dentist and hear what they say, but you may not remember everything after your visit.

For most people, the relaxed sensation created by nitrous oxide sedation is very pleasant and calming. If a patient doesn’t like the sensation or effect it creates, alternative options are available.

Dental Anxiety and Oral Health

It’s common for people of any age to experience anxiety, fear, or stress in a dental setting.

Here are some facts about dental anxiety from the British Dental Health Foundation:

Our dentists are here to listen and understand the challenges anxiety can have on a patient’s ability to seek help for their oral care needs. We’ll work with you on coping techniques or creating a management plan. Avoiding or delaying an appointment can lead to dental symptoms getting worse or more extensive treatments.
